Dear Students, Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to 6th Grade Math! This year we will be studying a variety of topics based on the Common Core State Standards. We will also focus on problem solving, MCAS preparation and math literacy skills.
Materials: Students are expected to arrive to class on time and with their materials. Materials include: 1-inch 3 ring binder (for math only!), lined paper for your binder, PENCILS (lots and lots of pencils!), erasers, and a held pencil sharpener.
Grading: Your math average is made up of your unit test scores (30%), tasks/classwork (30%),
homework (25%), and warm ups/participation/attitude (15%). Students may revise unit tests or can earn back half of the points originally lost. All revisions are due within two weeks.
Homework: Students will receive a homework packet each Friday which is due the following Friday. Students may turn in homework early for teacher feedback/corrections on Mondays and Wednesdays. The homework serves as both as practice of current topics as well as a review of skills taught previously in the year. Additional homework may be given throughout the year.
Absences and Extra Help: If a student is absent, he or she is responsible for making up any missed work within one week of the absence. Math extra help is available after school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 2:30-3:00.
Please feel free to contact me by email or phone. I am looking forward to a successful year!
